Angel McCoughtry scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Atlanta Dream to an 89-80 overtime victory Wednesday against the visiting Indiana Fever.
McCoughtry had a strong all-around game as the Dream improved to 13-3 on their home court and 16-13 overall. She added nine rebounds, eight assists, three steals and three blocked shots and was 12 of 14 from the free-throw line.
Even with her efforts, the game went into overtime, and Indiana (13-16) had a chance to win at the end of regulation.
The Fever’s Tamika Catchings hit 1 of 2 free throws to give Indiana a 76-74 lead with 27 seconds left. Erika de Souza’s field goal with 15 seconds left tied the game at 76-all.
Indiana set up for a final shot, but Karima Christmas was called for charging just before the fourth-quarter buzzer. McCoughtry missed a long 3-pointer with less than a second left, and the game went into overtime.
The Fever led briefly in the extra session when Erlana Larkins hit one of two free throws for a 77-76 lead. But Atlanta scored the next nine points and led the rest of the way.
Catchings led Indiana with 22 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. Shavonte Zellous added 15 points, and Larkins finished with 10.
De Souza added 17 points for the Dream, while Armintie Harrington came off the bench to add 13 points.
The Fever will visit the Chicago Sky for an 8:30 p.m. game Friday.
