Family seeks donations for hurricane victims

A Franklin family who lost their home in the 2008 flood knows what it is like to receive help from strangers.

That’s why county corrections officer Angie Groover and her family want to collect clothing, food and personal hygiene items to donate to people who lost their homes in Hurricane Sandy.

“We never had the opportunity to really give back to all the wonderful people that gave to us,” Groover said.

Groover and her family hope to leave Thursday to take donations to Staten Island, N.Y.

They are asking people to donate nonperishable food items, personal hygiene products, new clothing of any size, cleaning products and baby items, such as diapers and diaper wipes.

People who want to donate items can take them to the county community corrections facility at 1071 Hospital Road in Franklin, Groover said. They also can call Groover at 777-4258 or Amy Richhart at 777-4300.
