Embezzler gets 4 years in prison

Follow Daily Journal:

INDIANAPOLIS — Gail Greathouse, a 57-year-old bookkeeper who embezzled $2.1 million from an Edinburgh metals company over a five-year period, was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt on Thursday.

Greathouse was ordered to pay back $2.13 million to LB Mold Inc., the company that employed her for 13 years, and another $10,000 to an insurance company involved in the case.

Prior to Thursday's sentencing, Greathouse's attorney, Stephen Ward Dillon of Indianapolis, said Greathouse "has accepted responsibility and will do her best to pay restitution.

"Of course, that will be a tall challenge" considering the amount of money involved, the attorney said.

Greathouse was also clerk-treasurer for Elizabethtown, a small town in Bartholomew County southeast of Columbus, but she resigned that public office after telling federal authorities in early January that she would plead guilty.
