The county coroner and state health employees are investigating whether a Franklin assisted living company followed health care facility rules after the death of a resident who wandered away.
A pedestrian found the body of Virginia Clayton, 85, about 8 a.m. Sunday along East Jefferson Street in Franklin. Clayton, who was from Martinsville, had been living at Morning Pointe Assisted Living since Jan. 6, Coroner David Lutz said.
An autopsy showed she died of hypothermia about five hours before she was discovered, Lutz said. Foul play isn’t suspected, and no criminal investigation is being conducted.
The facility is cooperating with the investigations, Morning Pointe executive director Luan Deskins said.
“We take the responsibilities of caring for our residents very seriously, and we consider each one family,” Deskins said.
