A heart for Daily Journal Editor Michele Holtkamp, for her appearance at the Franklin United Methodist Community Men’s Club “Steak Out,” where she evidenced her “heart” for people in the news, her newspaper and her community. Thanks, Michele, a job well done!

A big heart to Mrs. Ann Miller, the best STAR teacher at Center Grove High School! STAR is a program that assigns students as freshmen to a STAR teacher, who is then their STAR teacher for all four years of high school. It allows teachers like Mrs. Miller to form incredible bonds, mentor, challenge, encourage and so much more. Thank you Mrs. Miller for all you did the past four years.
Hearts to Center Grove for the “S to the 5th,” a wonderful and incredibly motivating idea that allows seniors who have almost perfect attendance and a B-plus in the class to be exempt from the final for that class. It keeps seniors working hard, focused and dedicated until the very end. I certainly hope the rumor that “S to the 5th” may end is just that
... a rumor!
Darts to all the individuals who live in my subdivision who walk their dogs and feel that it is OK to let their dogs water my flowers and defecate in my yard. I love animals; I have them. But I am responsible for them. It is simple: Carry a bag and clean up after your pets. Pet urine kills flowers. The corner that your dog uses so happens to be a school bus pickup point. I’m sure that smells good all day. Be a considerate pet owner — clean up after your animals.
Darts to the individual who would steal money from a nonprofit veterans organization. It is extremely sad that anyone would stoop so low as to be a common thief and take money from an organization of men and women that has helped the very people whom they protected while serving in a combat zone. Greenwood VFW was burglarized earlier this month, and an investigation is under way by the police department.
