Hearts

To our Secret Santa (Jackie Johnson) on Mary’s Court in Whiteland, thank you so much for spreading cheer this holiday season. It was very exciting to see what Santa would deliver to us every day. Your thoughtfulness this holiday season made it extra special for all of us. Happy 2014!

Hearts to the Center Grove school board for making the Daily Journal’s Top 10 stories that shaped 2013. Congratulations. Money, a 19 percent raise, and you are in the Top 10.

Hearts to the many local businesses and organizations that have supported the Interchurch Food Pantry. In particular, Caterpillar recently made gift baskets packed with birthday goodies for families — in addition to the canned goods, gourmet popcorn, appreciation gifts and significant financial gifts throughout the year. The Franklin Rotary Club has provided significant funding through the Jim Rhoades Memorial Hog Roast. Duke Energy provided a generous grant from their foundation. And finally, Heartland Bank made a generous donation. These businesses and organizations value Johnson County families and strive to make a strong community through their donations. We appreciate your generosity.

Thanks to Eagle Scout Caleb Brown and his Boy Scout Troop 227 for making 168 Christmas trees and donating them to brighten the holidays for numerous families in our community. The trees were incredibly creative, made from chicken wire, four to five feet tall, and were covered in greenery, garland, ornaments and lights. Many families who came to the Interchurch Food Pantry received not only food but a Christmas tree too. We heard many delightful comments from those recipients. Kudos to Caleb Brown for initiating this project to help those in our community.

Recently I was traveling with my family from Florida to Chicago. My car broke down on Interstate 65 just off the Franklin exit. One of your local police officers came to our rescue and recommended Franklin Muffler and Brakes. The breakdown occurred late at night, so we had to wait until the morning to talk to someone. They were able to get my car up and running by early afternoon. They even came to the hotel to pick us up! Everyone at this establishment was beyond polite, nice and courteous. You have a true gem in your town.

Darts

Darts to the Center Grove school board for making the Daily Journal’s Top 10 stories that shaped 2013 by awarding a 19 percent raise. Too bad it’s the students and taxpayers who are mostly suffering.
