No one was injured when a Greenwood man drove his car into the path of an oncoming train Wednesday in Whiteland.
Barinder Singh, 23, was driving about 10:45 a.m. on Main Street when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing near Front Street and hit a train owned by the Louisville and Indiana Railroad Company, Whiteland Police Chief Rick Shipp said.
Shipp said Singh was not paying attention and didn’t notice the railroad crossing warning lights that were flashing. The railroad crossing does not have a gate that lowers when a train goes by.
The train was able to travel on without problem.
The intersection was closed for about 15 minutes, Shipp said.
