Police say a Trafalgar man is lucky to be alive after flipping his car several times.
Austin Douglas Burchett, 30, was arrested for driving under the influence after he drove his car off State Road 135 near Division Road at 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Burchett was driving north on State Road 135, crossed the center line, overcorrected and flipped his car in a farm field, the report said.
Nobody saw the accident happen, but Burchett likely flipped his car more than once, Deputy T.J. Montgomery said.
The car was totaled, and Burchett is lucky to be alive, Montgomery said.
“He walked away with just a bump on his head,” Montgomery said. “It could have been much worse.”
A witness told police they saw Burchett walk away from the scene, and police found him at a nearby church, the report said.
Burchett told police he had two beers at dinner. A test showed his blood-alcohol content was .129 percent, the report said.
Burchett, 108 Carnation Court, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $1,000 bond.
