The Humane Society of Johnson County will have its annual dog walk Saturday in Franklin’s Province Park.

The Paw Pounder Dog Walk will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will be at 9 a.m. The walk begins at 11 a.m., with one-half mile and 1-mile distances available. The event will take place rain or shine.

The walk is one of the society’s main annual fundraisers.

Registration is $25 per person, which includes a T-shirt and doggie bags, containing treats for dogs and their owners. Register as a team of five or more and the team collecting the most pledges will receive the 2012 Leader of the Pack award.

Activities begin at 9 a.m. and will include a “Splash Zone” with “Wipe Your Paws” towels; pet photos; an agility course and dog park access; “The Woodpile Kitty” book signing by local children’s author Diana Satkamp; a meet-and-greet and autographs with Patty Spitler and Louie of Pet Pals TV and WISH-Channel 8; a pet parade; and a blessing of the animals by the Rev. Paul Nugent at 10:45 a.m.

Contests include best pet costume, best trick and best kisser.

Awards and recognition immediately follow the walk.
