Crash near Taylorsville on U.S. 31 hampers traffic

TAYLORSVILLE - A two-car accident this morning near Taylorsville caused the U.S. 31 northbound lanes to be closed or restricted for more than an hour.

At approximately 6:35 a.m., Redia Martin, 57, Brooks, Ky., was driving a red Buick southbound on U.S. 31 and was getting ready to turn left onto northbound Interstate 65, according to Maj. Todd Noblitt, spokesman for the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department.

Martin turned into the path of a PT Cruiser driven by Sherrie Teltoe, 57, Hope, who was northbound on U.S. 31 at the I-65 interchange. The two cars hit nearly head-on, Noblitt said.

Both drivers were taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for complaints of pain.
