Couple killed in blast identified by coroner

An Indianapolis couple officially have been identified as the two people killed in Saturday’s explosion in a southside neighborhood.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the two people killed as Jennifer L. Longworth, 36, and John “Dion” Longworth, 34.

Officials have said two people were killed in the explosion in the Richmond Hill neighborhood Saturday night. The following day, friends, family and co-workers prepared for the worst when they hadn’t heard from the couple.

Police confirmed the two had been killed in a report earlier this week but were waiting on a positive identification from the coroner. The police report had said the two were found in the basement of their home, located at 8355 Fieldfare Way.

The coroner’s office used dental records to confirm their identifications, according to a statement from Chief Deputy Coroner Alfarena T. Ballew.

The office has not yet officially determined the cause and manner of death, the statement said.

Jennifer Longworth was a second-grade teacher at Southwest Elementary School in Greenwood. Dion Longworth was the director of product development and technology at Indy Audio Labs, an audio electronics company in Indianapolis.
