The Greenwood Community Center will be getting all new LED light bulbs this year to save on energy costs.
The city has hired Energy Savings Solutions of Miami to replace the community center’s fluorescent light bulbs with 544 LED bulbs for about $60,000.
The cost savings with the more energy-efficient light bulbs will be more than $12,000 per year, regional vice president Jim Oxley said. Electricity and bulb replacement for lighting the community center cost more than $20,000 a year currently and should drop to about $8,000 a year with the new bulbs, he said.
The city will earn back its investment within five years, and the company will replace any bulbs that break at no cost because it provides a lifetime guarantee, he said.
