College update: Greenwood grad makes most of court time

Franklin College women’s basketball player Nicole Thompson has not started a game this season for the 7-3 Grizzlies; but coming off the bench for 23.6 minutes per contest, she leads her team in scoring with 12.1 points per game and is second in rebounds with 6.7.

The Greenwood Community High School graduate had 17 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots, one steal and no turnovers in 32 minutes in a 49-37 win at Wittenberg.


The Bellarmine women’s basketball team (8-1) won three games in Puerto Rico, defeating Puerto Rico-Bayamon 69-61, Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 66-45 and Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 73-53. Allie Osen played 39 minutes in the three wins and had 14 points (3 for 11, 8 for 14), nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal.

Center Grove

Ball State football player Joel Cox saw action for the Cardinals in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla. Ball State (9-4) lost 38-17 to Central Florida.

The St. Mary-of-the-Woods women’s basketball team (4-9) defeated Earlham, 85-72, and Indiana-Southeast, 93-83. Brittney Shaner had 25 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists in 31 minutes against Earlham and 17 points and 10 rebounds against IU-Southeast.

The Northern Kentucky women’s basketball team (3-6)

defeated North Carolina-Wilmington 71-55. Melody Doss had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals in 16 minutes.

The Elmhurst women’s basketball team (5-5) defeated Alma 70-50 and lost 57-56 to Benedictine. Nikky Moan had 11 points, a team high 11 rebounds, one assist and two steals in 24 minutes in the win and three points, six rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes in the loss.

Kelcey Daugherty had two rebounds and one steal in six minutes for the Manchester women’s basketball team (3-6) in a 53-42 loss to Trine.

The Franklin men’s basketball team (6-4) defeated Wabash 97-82. J.T. Barton had 10 points, three points and one steal in 11 minutes. Mark Kwiatkowski had three points, six rebounds and one blocked shot in 12 minutes.


Kyle Wuest had five points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 20 minutes for the Elmhurst men’s basketball team (3-6) in an 81-64 win against Benedictine.

Indian Creek

Kylee Hamilton played 49 minutes for the Bellarmine women’s basketball team in three games in Puerto Rico and had 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Bellarmine (8-1) defeated Puerto Rico-Bayamon 69-61, Puerto Rico Mayaguez 66-45, and Puerto Rico Piedras 73-53.
