College update: Ex-Trojans player leads way

St. Mary-of-the-Woods basketball player Brittney Shaner continues to lead her team in scoring, rebounding and steals and is second in assists.

The Center Grove graduate is averaging 21.1 points per game on .459 shooting from the field, .323 from behind the arc and .707 from the foul line. She averages 6.4 rebounds per game and has had 39 steals and 40 assists for the 4-11 Pomeroys.

Last week, St. Mary-of-the-Woods lost 108-89 to Indiana Tech and 99-79 to Trine.

The junior had team highs of 28 points (11 for 22, 6 for 10), seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in 31 minutes against Indiana Tech and 18 points (6 for 17, 1 for 4, 5 for 8), nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and one blocked shot in 27 minutes against Trine.

The Northern Kentucky women’s basketball team (3-7, 0-1), now

a Division I program, lost its

rebounds and one assist in 17


The University of Indianapolis women’s basketball team (7-1) defeated Michigan Tech 78-74. Kirsten Gliesmann had eight rebounds, seven points (3 for 5, 1 for 2) and one assist in 30 minutes.

Nikky Moan played 18 minutes for the Elmhurst women’s basketball team (6-5) in an 85-55 win against Beloit and had four points (2 for 10), six rebounds, two assists, one blocked shot and one steal.

The Manchester women’s

basketball team traveled to Redlands, Calif., for two games. The Spartans lost 70-37 to Redlands

and defeated Marian, Wisconsin, 46-40. Kelcey Daugherty had two rebounds in nine minutes against Redlands and did not play against Marian.

J.T. Barton had 10 points (4 for 6, 2 for 2), three rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes for the Franklin men’s basketball team (7-4) in a 67-66 win against No. 17 Division III Illinois Wesleyan.

The IPFW men’s basketball team (6-9, 0-2) lost 88-74 to IUPUI and 62-50 to Western Illinois. Joe Reed played 11 minutes in each game and totaled six points (1 for 1, 4 for 6), five rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.


The Elmhurst men’s basketball team (4-7) lost 87-77 to Ripon and won 80-66 against Wabash. Kyle Wuest had five points (2 for 8, 1 for 2), six rebounds and six assists in 20 minutes against Ripon and six points (2 for 4, 2 for 4), two rebounds, two assists and one steal against Wabash. The freshman leads the team with a 3-1 assist to turnover ratio.

Jordan Burton is no longer a member of the IU-South Bend men’s basketball team.


Mitch Meador assisted on one tackle for the Cincinnati football team (10-3) in its 48-34 win against Duke in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, N.C.


The Bellarmine women’s basketball team (9-1) defeated Millersville 73-66. Allie Osen had six points (3 for 7), four rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot in 16 minutes.

Nicole Thompson had 13 points (4 for 10, 5 for 8), seven rebounds and one assist in 26 minutes for the Franklin women’s basketball team (8-3) in a 54-45 win against Benedictine.
