City plans informational session on roundabout

Follow Daily Journal:

Construction workers are building a new roundabout in Franklin this summer and residents will be able to learn more about it before it opens in August.

The city will host a roundabout education meeting at 6:30 p.m. July 30 at city hall, 70 E. Monroe St., about the traffic flow and safety benefits of roundabouts and the proper way to navigate around the new intersection. Residents also will be able to ask engineers questions about the roundabout.

The intersection of North Main Street, Oliver Avenue, and Clark and Walnut streets is being rebuilt as a roundabout. Currently, the streets meet at odd angles, and drivers needed to wait for a long traffic light.

Franklin has smaller roundabouts in subdivisions, including Heritage and Maclaren Manor off Hurricane Road, but the Main Street roundabout will be the first in the city in a high-traffic area.
