Greenwood gave final approval to an annexation of about 1,800 acres around a future interstate exit at Worthsville Road.

The city wanted to annex the land, which includes 112 properties that are mostly agricultural land and single-family homes, because officials want to guide development at the new Interstate 65 interchange planned to be built next year.

The city’s vision is for the area to develop into high-end offices, homes and apartments; locally owned restaurants; and a possible recreational lake, rather than truck stops and fast-food eateries, which typically are built at highway exits.
