Church sets fall opening for expanded pantry

A Center Grove area church is expanding its facilities to house the church’s food pantry and clothing ministries under one roof.

Early this fall Mount Pleasant Christian Church will open the new Community Ministry Center.

The 15,000-square-foot center will house Living Bread food pantry and In His Name clothing ministry.

Before, the programs operated in separate locations. The center will be across the street from the church, which is at 381 N. Bluff Road in White River Township.

According to a statement from the church, the two programs serve more than 200 families per week.

Several new features including a loading dock, walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer and larger space for storage and distribution will allow the food pantry to distribute food to more people each week and act as an extension of Midwest Food Bank, supplying necessary food relief deeper into Johnson County through other smaller pantries.

In addition, the church’s pantry may be called upon to offer food relief in the event of a local crisis or national disaster.

The center will feature a gathering room where church members can share religious messages and prayer offerings.
