Car wash to benefit Vietnam War memorial

Follow Daily Journal:

A car wash today in Greenwood will raise money to build a new Vietnam War memorial.

The Clark-Pleasant National Junior Honor Society will host a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at Donatos Pizza, at 2260 S. U.S. 31 in Greenwood, in front of the Kroger shopping center.

The wall at Proctor Park in New Whiteland will honor the 1,532 Hoosier lives lost during the Vietnam War. Nine of those who died were from Johnson County. A total of $10,000 will be needed for the project.

The installation will have seven pillars engraved with the names of the veterans. The engravings can be used for pencil rubbings, similar to what visitors can do at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Donations can be mailed to the New Whiteland Town Hall, 401 Mooreland Drive, New Whiteland, IN 46184. Donations are tax deductible.
