Police arrested a man who drove off of Interstate 65 and hit a set of safety wires early Sunday.
Derek R. White, 23, Indianapolis, was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated.
Police found White’s car, which was missing its hood, in the median near the I-65 Franklin exit about 12:45 a.m. Sunday. White told police he thought he was getting onto Interstate 465 and that there were three lanes. When White got onto the interstate, he went across two lanes of traffic, hit the road’s rumble strips and then struck the safety wires in the median, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.
White told police he had been drinking earlier in the evening. A test showed White had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent, nearly two times the legal limit to be considered intoxicated.
White, 6404 Cradle River Drive, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $1,000 bond.
