Ivy Tech appoints development director

Brenda Vogel was named executive director of resource development at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin.

Vogel earned a bachelor’s degree from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business and a master’s from Indiana Wesleyan University in Indianapolis.

Community Hospital upgrades newborn care

Community Hospital South, 1402 E. County Line Road, Indianapolis, has upgraded its special care nursery from Level IIA to Level IIB.

Because of the upgrade, infants born as early as 32 weeks or those requiring advanced medical care will not have to be transferred to another facility. The special care nursery at the hospital is equipped to administer several procedures.

The hospital also is staffed by a respiratory therapy team specialized in neonatal care 24 hours a day.

Bargersville woman to lead ALS unit

Cindy Wise has been named the executive director of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association Indiana Chapter.

Wise is a resident of Bar­gersville.

The ALS Association is a nonprofit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease.

2 physicians joining medical group

Dr. Ali Shahriari has joined Community Heart and Vascular, part of Community Health Network, at the Indiana Heart Hospital, 8075 N. Shadeland Ave., Suite 200, Indianapolis.

Shahriari received his medical degree at the University of Gothenburg School of Medicine in Sweden. He graduated from the cardiothoracic program at Yale University and completed his general surgery residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Emily Rose has also joined Community Heart and Vascular. Her office is at 1402 E. County Line Road, Suite 2400, Indianapolis.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at Brown University and her medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.

Military group planning Columbus hiring fair

The South Central Indiana Military Support Network will conduct a hiring fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Ave., Suite 1600.

Area military personnel who have completed their military contracts and members of their immediate family will be given first consideration for available jobs if they meet job qualifications.

Businesses with job openings may register online to reserve space during the event.

Engineering firm names manager of operations

Russell Stroud has been named manager of operations for Heartland Machine and Engineering, 3088 RJ Parkway, Franklin.

Stroud is the fourth new employee in the company’s first year of operation.

St. Francis physician elected to honor group

Dr. Bridget Sanders, a member of St. Francis Medical Group, has been elected to membership in the Indiana chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

She will be inducted into the group at a ceremony and banquet at IUPUI next spring. She was nominated by members of the Indiana chapter.

She earned her medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Repair firm to accept unwanted computers

Geek in Pink Computer Repair will recycle unwanted and nonworking computers through Nov. 30.

Machines can be dropped off at the Greenwood location, 3209 W. Smith Valley Road, Suite 99, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday or 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

A $10 gift certificate toward future Geek in Pink services will be given at the time of donation. All data on the hard drives will be destroyed by request for free.

CDs and power cords also will be accepted. Monitors, scanners and printers will not be accepted.
