Bungled burglary leads to arrest

Follow Daily Journal:

An Indianapolis man was arrested after he was found trying to take items from a house in Needham.

Donald Stone, 25, 1507 Stacy Lynn Drive, was arrested on charges of burglary involving battery with injury, battery with injury and criminal recklessness.

A woman saw Stone and another man taking items from a house and putting them into a car in the 7200 block of East County Road 350N just after 8 p.m. Sunday. The woman called 911 and the homeowner, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

The homeowner arrived and parked his truck at the end of his driveway blocking the car. The suspected burglars tried to drive away, and drove into the resident’s truck, the report said.

After the crash, one man ran away. Stone started to run but returned and tried to get back into the car, the report said.

The homeowner struggled with Stone to stop him from leaving, and at one point Stone tried to leave the house in the woman’s car. After that, Stone started taking the items he’d put in the car, including a portable welder, a desktop computer tower, a socket set, a printer and power painting equipment, back into the house, the report said.

Stone tried again to get back into the car, and when the homeowner blocked him Stone punched the man, cutting him near his eye.

Stone was taken to the Johnson County jail. Anyone with information on the second man is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 346-4604.
