Big plans for new year

Follow Daily Journal:

The beginning of a new year typically is when people set goals for the coming 12 months. Johnson County residents have shared their New Year’s resolutions for 2013. While each had a different idea to improve themselves in the coming year, maybe their thoughts will help inspire others.

Dan Caperton

Age: 63

Home: Southside

Resolution: I try to live each day better and stay healthy since having my open-heart surgery two years ago.

Phil Campbell

Age: 41

Home: Southside

Resolution: I want to get leaner and faster. That’s a goal I can focus on. The other stuff is a matter of just figuring out as it goes.

Kevin Gottlieb

Age: 22

Home: Center Grove area native; living in Chicago

Resolution: I’m always trying to move forward. But slapping a name on it and calling it a New Year’s resolution cheapens it and gives it less validity.

Jenna Hudson

Age: 17

Home: Center Grove area

Resolution: One is to get in better shape, and the other is to learn to play guitar. I’m going to search online for lessons, and my brother plays, so I’ll ask him for help. And I have some friends who play as well.

Meggan Walker

Age: 37

Home: Greenwood

Resolution: To try new recipes from my cookbooks. I love cooking healthy food for my family, but I get stuck doing the same things. I have 15 cookbooks, and I never open them. This year, I will dust them off and use them.

Tracey Woolsey

Age: 41

Home: Center Grove area

Resolution: We don’t do resolutions. When I first started, I didn’t want to come up to the gym. But then the weight started dropping off.  We set a running goal of weight loss.

Tim Woolsey

Age: 43

Home: Center Grove area

Resolution: We’ve lost 200 pounds together over the past two years. So this is our third time around with the New Year’s resolution set — the people that’ll get sick of it by February.

Brian Walker

Age: 36

Home: Greenwood

Resolution: Spend more one-on-one time with my three boys and encourage their individuality.

Chris Hale

Age: 40

Home: Bargersville

Resolution: I want to start working out. I was previously working out, and then I just laid off for about a month, so I’m trying to get back into it. And I want to keep being a good dad to my son.

Denise Glidden

Age: 39

Home: Greenwood

Resolution: Last year, I wanted to lose weight, so I lost 20 pounds. My goals for this year is to keep it off and help to motivate others.

Kristen Bial

Age: 38

Home: Southside

Resolution: I want to lose 15 pounds by March by working out, taking classes with friends and eating better.

Zach Dodds

Age: 21

Home: Franklin

Resolution: I want to get better at money management. I want to be more vigilant about what I spend.

Andrew Miller

Age: 26

Home: Franklin

Resolution: Usually I set goals; and the ones I made last year that I didn’t knock out, I’ll roll those into next year. I wanted to run a marathon last year, and I got close to that point but got busy. So I’ll try to do that.

Eric Rich

Age: 46

Home: Center Grove area

Resolution: I generally do try to do better every day. Whether that’s working out or being a better person.

Keeley Payne

Age: 26

Home: Franklin

Resolution: Last year I made the resolution to read 50 books, and I did that. So this year, I want to up it to 100.
