Local gardeners or amateur insect aficionados, get ready for the buzz.

Indiana Beekeeping School is hosting a beginner beekeeper class Jan. 4 and 5 at Crooked Creek Community Development Center, 7003 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis.

The class covers all aspects of backyard beekeeping and requires no previous knowledge or experience of the practice. Student graduates will be keeping bees starting in the summer.

Students complete classroom seminars and attend construction workshops, and in the spring can complete hands-on training at a working organic bee farm in central Indiana.

After the class, they join graduates from all previous classes for ongoing training and mentoring via Internet groups.

The class is suitable for youth and adults.

The class will conclude by 4 p.m. Jan. 5. Tuition is $120 with a discount for additional family members. Optional beehive kits will be delivered to the class for use in the workshops.

Advance registration is required online at www.indiana
