Back in New England: Edds joins Pats again

Daily Journal staff report

A.J. Edds, a former standout at Greenwood Community High School, has been signed by the New England Patriots for a second time.

The 6-foot-4, 256-pound linebacker most recently played with the Indianapolis Colts. He signed with the Patriots on June 6.

He made his NFL regular-season debut with the Patriots in September 2011. He played two games for New England before being released and signed to the practice squad.

Signed off the practice squad by the Colts on Sept. 28, 2011, Edds finished the season with Indianapolis, appearing in nine games.

In 2012, he suffered a season-ending knee injury on the first day of Colts training camp and spent the entire year on injured reserve.

He was fourth-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2010 out of Iowa.

Edds sat out his entire rookie season with a knee injury, then was released by the Dolphins before the start of the 2011 season.

Primarily a special teams player, Edds has 13 career tackles.
