Police arrested the estranged boyfriend of a woman found dead in her Greenwood home earlier this month.
Michael V. Richards, 44, was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated battery and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michelle R. Andrews, according to a news release from the Greenwood Police Department.
A friend found Andrews, 44, dead in her apartment in the Stonehedge Apartment complex off County Line Road, between U.S. 31 and State Road 135, on June 2.
An autopsy showed Andrews’ death was a homicide and the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Police have not discussed the investigation. The release said they focused on Richards, whom they identified as Andrews’ live-in estranged boyfriend.
Officers described the investigation as lengthy and difficult, the release said. They have not outlined what evidence or information led to Richards’ arrest.
Investigators searched Andrews’ apartment, at 1153 Stonehedge East Drive, Apt. H, her personal belongings and two vehicles taken from the apartment complex. They also put together a timeline of when she was last seen or spoken to.
Police got an arrest warrant for Richards on Thursday and arrested him at the Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis, where he was staying, the release said.
Richards was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held on $28,000 bond.
