Two local high school choirs earned high marks in a weekend competition.
Sound System of Center Grove High School was named first runner-up at the Shelbyville Singing Sensation.
Franklin Community High School’s Heritage Singers were named grand champions in their division, winning caption awards for best choreography and best vocals.
Franklin students Sam Meyer and Emma Wilson won best male and female soloist captions, and Spencer Sullivan was named best performer of the group.
Center Grove senior Joel Flynn was named best male soloist in a large mixed show, and sophomore Katie Swaney was honored as outstanding performer of the group.
The Debtones of Center Grove also earned runner-up honors in the women’s division. They earned the caption award for best tech crew. Sophomore Molly Fox was recognized as the outstanding performer of the group.
Surround Sound, Center Grove’s junior varsity mixed show choir, also competed in the festival division, placing first runner-up. Senior Rachel Conner was selected as the outstanding performer. Freshman Maria Rose was named outstanding performer for the Accents.
Swaney also won first runner-up in the solo competition. Senior Megan Timmons received second runner-up.
