Edinburgh police arrested three people on drug charges after a traffic stop.
Police arrested Ricky Turner Jr., 38, of Greencastle, and Rhonda Chandler, 35, of Edinburgh, on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an injection device. Turner also was arrested on an additional charge of driving while suspended.
Kelly Cowan, 36, of Edinburgh, who reported Chandler stole her sport-utility vehicle, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.
Cowan flagged down an officer and said Chandler had just stolen her Dodge Durango at 1 a.m. Friday.
The officer was able to find the vehicle on Main Cross Street and stopped it. Turner and Chandler told police they had permission to borrow the vehicle.
Officers searched the vehicle and found syringes, marijuana and a marijuana grinder, the report said.
Police told Cowan they were impounding the vehicle because her name wasn’t on the registration. Cowan began yelling at officers and tried to run toward the vehicle while police were searching it, the report said. An officer had to handcuff her and found a pill in her pocket that she didn’t have a prescription for, the report said.
All three people were taken to the Johnson County jail. Turner was held on $9,000 bond, Chandler was held on $8,000 bond and Cowan was released on $5,000 bond.
