TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. — Two Taylorsville Elementary School students were hit by a Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. bus this morning in the Colony Park neighborhood near Taylorsville, according to Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Major Todd Noblitt and a school district press release.

A 9-year-old girl suffered serious injuries and was taken by Lifeline helicopter to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, and a 6-year-old boy was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, Noblitt said. Both left the scene about 8:30 a.m., he added.

The children are siblings, according to eye witness Dusti Watkins, who was at the bus stop with four children.

The accident happened about 7:40 a.m. today at the corner of Chaucer and Buckingham drives, which has a three-way stop, and involved bus No. 269, Noblitt said.

The sheriff's department is leading the investigation and an Indiana State Police accident reconstructionist is on the scene.

Noblitt said preliminary information indicates that the children may have run out into the street in front of the bus.

The other students on the school bus were taken to school by another BCSC bus, Noblitt said.
