To the editor:

Blaming guns for the killing of innocent lives in Connecticut a few weeks ago, America doesn’t get it. My opinion is that you could get rid of every gun in the United States of America, and still evil people would find a different way to bring harm to innocent people, or even kill them.

The problem lies within the heart of man. The Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Christians should not be surprised when horrible things happen.

America has set into place an agenda based on immorality, self-centeredness, greed and idolatry. We spend lots of money every year filing lawsuits to have the Ten Commandments removed from courthouse lawns. Christians who hand out Gospel tracts in shopping malls are kicked out or arrested. Schools are forced to teach evolution rather than creationism.

Many workplaces do not tolerate any kind of religious conversation. Same-sex marriage is slowly but surely becoming the norm, and when Christians try to say anything against it, they are labeled as homophobes. We’re allowing more and more false religions to permeate our culture (while tearing down Christian ideals). We still have the big one, abortion, which to this date has killed more than 55 million innocent lives, and we do it in the name of free choice.

More and more places of business enjoy the benefits of the Christmas season, but refuse to say “Merry Christmas!” The retail industry must be really glad that a “Holiday” surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ was created, after all; the majority of our economic livelihood is based on Christmas sales.

To add insult to injury, many churches have become nothing more than social clubs where preachers are afraid to preach the Gospel truth, but rather offer a “friendly” Gospel that condemns nothing and tolerates everything.

The Bible says in Romans 2:5-8, “But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God will give to each person according to what he has done. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.”

God is love, full of mercy, and dispenses grace freely. But He is also holy, righteous and just. He can’t continue to tolerate sin forever. Right now, He is actually holding back His wrath, because he loves us dearly and is very patient with us. Gun control is not the answer. The life changing gospel of Jesus Christ is.

For the Christian who sits on the sidelines and stays neutral in all moral issues, wake-up and repent. If you truly are a Christ-follower, then aid in the great commission to take the gospel message to the lost, without compromise.

For the unbeliever, please understand that, apart from Jesus Christ, there is no chance for a hurting nation to heal. Repentance and faith is the starting point. We need to face the truth. Jesus Christ is the answer.
