Police are investigating a break-in at the Greenwood VFW post, where someone stole about $5,000.
A VFW member called police Thursday and reported that someone had broken into a cabinet where the lodge keeps its money.
The bar manager told police that the bartender working Wednesday night said someone had propped open the north door of the post, 333 S. Washington St., twice during the evening.
The first time someone put coasters in the door so it wouldn’t shut and taped down the door latch the second time.
Police are investigating the incident, Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillen-warth said.
Steve Milbourn, judge advocate and adjutant for the Greenwood VFW, said it’s a shame that someone would steal from the nonprofit organization.
“It’s just upsetting that someone would take money away from people that are using it to help other people,” he said.
