Vern “Mickey” Branigin, 85, of Edinburgh, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Morning Pointe in Franklin.
He was born April 22, 1928, in Edinburgh to the late Paul and Tessie Lamon (Owens) Branigin.
He married Delcie (Barker) Branigin on Nov. 16, 1950. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 1994.
Survivors include five children Mark (Mary) Branigin, Jeanie Gilp and Donna Jo (Rich) Luzzi, all of Edinburgh, Mary Jane (Tim) McGinnis of Coto de Caza, Calif., and Gary Branigin of Windsor, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Francis Branigin; and two sisters, Pearl Collins and Beulah Long.
He was a 1946 graduate of Edinburgh High School. He served in the U.S. Army in a tank unit during the Korean era.
He was a member of Edinburgh Presbyterian Church.
He co-owned Branigin’s Clothing Store in Edinburgh, retiring in 1978.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. The Rev. Mark Myers will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America or the Johnson County Animal Shelter, in care of the funeral home.
