Norman E. Shelton, 66, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his residence in Greenwood.

Born July 10, 1946, in Indianapolis, he was a graduate of Triton Central High School and a U.S. Navy veteran.

He retired from National Starch after 32 years and worked security at Raytheon for four years.

An avid bowler, he spent many years in leagues and enjoyed golfing, fishing and all muscle cars.

Norman and Janet made many memories traveling across the United States together. They took trips to Alaska, Florida, Hawaii and a six-week drive out west and went on many Caribbean cruises.

His sense of humor and kind heart will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church, where he served as a greeter and a communion server for many years. He was also a member of American Legion Post 495 and United Steel Workers Union.

Survivors include his wife of more than 36 years, Janet L. (Hansen) Shelton; five children, Shane (Penny) Shelton, Gymi (Randy) McBurnett, Ed (Kathy) Smith, Sheri Maar-Daugherty and Steven (Robin) Padgett; five siblings, Shannon “Jonny” Johnson, Shirley Gray, Jim Shelton, Jeff Shelton and Mike Shelton; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Cookie Johns; his son-in-law, David Daugherty; his parents, Gene and Marie (Morrison) Shelton; and three nieces.

The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave., Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indian Creek Christian Church; Memo: Generous Bucket, in care of the funeral home.
