Lois Jean (Curtis) Godsey, 86, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in Greenwood. She was a resident of Franklin for most of her life.
She was born on April 6, 1926, in Greenwood to George and Marguerite (Hinkle) Curtis.
She married James C. Godsey on Sept. 21, 1944. They were married for 50 wonderful years. He preceded her in passing in 1994.
Lois is survived by children, Jenny Garrett, Pamela Godsey and David Godsey. She was a proud grandmother of four, Jan Hamilton, Jack Hamilton, Jessica Bryant and Erika Godsey; a great-grandmother of five, James Cox, Lauren Hamilton, Abigail Hamilton, Joanna Hamilton and Austin Hamilton; and a great-great-grandmother to Jace Cox. She is also survived by sister, Jorja Spurgeon.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, James Godsey; son, Mark Godsey; brothers, John Hinkle and James Curtis and sister, Geraldine Curtis.
She was a 1944 graduate of Greenwood High School.
Lois worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Co. during World War II in a one-woman office in Greenwood and as an operator in the Indianapolis location.
After World War II and the Korean War, she returned to Indiana and worked for Standard Grocery and was the union representative and lead cashier for several years in Franklin. Later, Lois also worked alongside her husband as a beautician for more than 20 years, until her retirement in 1994.
Lois was a member of the Franklin United Church of Christ and was an active member of the Johnson County Senior Center. She was a founding member of the Johnson County Homemakers Club and a life member of the Eastern Star.
Lois was a bit of a card shark, did a mean jitterbug, loved black coffee and sweet treats, and always enjoyed the company of family and friends.
The Rev. Guy Langston will conduct a celebration of Lois’ life at 1 p.m. on Friday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
