Pauline F. “Tootsie” (Covey) Ashman, 94, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Greenwood Health & Living Community. She was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Indianapolis and Morgantown, and she wintered in Naples, Fla.
Pauline was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Oolitic to the late Curtis and Melissa (Rogers) Covey. She was a 1936 graduate of Oolitic High School and went on to receive a degree in cosmetology.
Pauline married George Ashman on Dec. 31, 1937, in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1987, after 49 loving years.
Pauline was a retired owner and beautician of her own salon, which she operated out of her residence in Indianapolis for more than 25 years. After retirement, Pauline continued to provide beauty services to the Indianapolis area.
She loved being a homemaker and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Pauline enjoyed crocheting, listening to country music and traveling with her family.
Her family fondly remembers her delicious homemade cookies and preserves made from her garden. She also enjoyed reading and creating beautiful needlework crafts for her family.
She was a former member of the Morgantown Senior Center and the Morgantown Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority.
Pauline is survived by one son, Curtis “Bob” (Lynn) Ashman of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, Renee (Bradley Smith) Ashman of Traverse City, Mich., Gary Ashman of Indianapolis, Derrick (Tricia) Ashman of Chicago and Sean Myers of Clearwater, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a daughter-in-law, Therese Ashman of Traverse City, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Lee Ashman; one sister, Gladys Wagner; and one brother, Buck Covey.
Pauline’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Greenwood Health & Living for their dedicated care of Pauline over the years.
Additionally, they would like to acknowledge the very special relationship between Tootsie and her sister-in-law, Mary Louise Ashman. The two women were best friends and nearly inseparable for most of their lives. Also, the family would like to express a sincere thank-you to both Mary Louise and her husband, Harry, for their love, caring support and assistance over the years.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at noon Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
