Russell L. ‘Rusty’ Core
 

Russell L. “Rusty” Core, 96, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. He was a resident of Franklin.

He was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Union Township to Docil and Lela (Utterback) Core.

Survivors include three children, Joyce Jones and Barbara Kincaid, both of Bargersville, and David Core (Elaine) of Aurora; two stepchildren, Spencer Vawter (Jane) of Indianapolis and Carol Gladders (John) of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Jeff Jones, Vicki Atwood, Tony Kincaid, Kari Core Stratman and Kris Core; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Meghan, Jordan, Taylor, Savannah, Alexis and Chase; and a great-great-grandchild, Rowan.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; wives, Carrie Daugherty Core and Alice Vawter Core; and a brother, Harold Core.

Rusty was a graduate of Center Grove High School, class of 1934.

He worked as an automobile damage appraiser for many years.

Rusty’s memberships included Bargersville Christian Church, Union Village Masonic Lodge, Hillview Country Club and Deer Valley Golf Course.

He was an avid golfer, fisherman and gardener and was one of the founders of the Bargersville Volunteer Fire Department.

The Revs. Ken Rickett and Roger Gifford will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Monday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
