Marvin Ray Harbert, 73, of Anderson, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson.
He was born on Jan. 8, 1939, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Byron Ray Harbert and Hettie Louis (VanNess) Harbert. He graduated from Clark High School near Whiteland in 1957 and from Purdue University in 1962 as a computer scientist trained as a mechanical engineer.
He married Sarah Lee Raup Harbert on May 19, 1963. She survives in Anderson.
Marvin was an engineer at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Indianapolis for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He attended Whetstone Christian Church and Church of God, both in Anderson. He enjoyed working with machines, tools and wood.
He also is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Jeff) Obermeyer of Cincinnati; three sons, Joe (Janet) Harbert of Newburgh, Chuck (Peggy) Harbert of Fishers and Marvin Harbert of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Faye (Terry) Harris of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Maurice (Janice) Harbert of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Joshua, Madison and Sarah Harbert and Ashley Pierce; and one great-grandchild, Andrew Harbert.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, with Thomas Jones officiating. Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be at Knox Chapel in Point Isabel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
