Luvenia A. “Lavena” Caister, 91, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012. She was a resident of Greenwood.
She was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Oakes, N.D., to Olin Leslie “Bob” Cox and Grace (Gordon) Cox.
Lavena attended the Business Institute in Saginaw, Mich.
Lavena met Louis Caister at a prayer meeting in 1944, and they were married in November 1945 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Over the years of their marriage, they lived and served together in various United Methodist churches, Asbury College (now Asbury University), Asbury Seminary, Barrington College in Rhode Island and Community Church of Greenwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharlee (Robert) Gipson of Franklin; one son, Daniel C. (Cheryl) Caister of Newark Valley, N.Y.; and close family friend, Ed Rivera.
Lavena was very proud of her grandchildren, Erin (Paul) Krellwitz of Durham, N.C., Lauren Caister, currently working in Kyrgyzstan, and Seth (Dijana) Caister Rivera; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb and Maya Krellwitz and Amelia Caister Rivera.
A memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. Friday at Community Church of Greenwood, 1477 W. Main St. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson St.Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St.
