Lois Williamson Aebersold passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at the age of 87. She was born April 26, 1925, in Tokyo, Japan, of missionary parents, Everett and Corinth Williamson.
Due to the depression, they had to return to the United States in 1930. They moved to a small farm near Amanda, Ohio.
She attended the Amanda School System and graduated from high school in 1943. Because of a spinal problem, she had to wear a full body cast and braces for three years during her late teens. She took her college work at Asbury College and graduated in 1947 with a degree in Christian education and psychology.
She spent one year in a Methodist church in East St. Louis as a Christian education director.
While at Asbury, Lois met Jack Aebersold, and they were married in 1948. They served Methodist pastorates in south and north Indiana-Woods Chapel, Bourbon Parish and Pierceton. They then went to Yale University for Korean language study before going to South Korea as missionaries for the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. They served for 21 years.
Lois’ main role as a missionary was to teach missionary children, which she did in Wonju, Korea, and her last term at Korea Christian Academy in Taejon, Korea. She also worked with district minister’s wives. She taught English bible classes for high school girls and gave piano lessons for kindergarten teachers at Mokwon College.
They returned to the United States for family reasons and settled in Columbus in 1978. Lois began teaching first grade at the Catholic School where she taught for 17 years. She retired in 1995.
In 1998, she and her husband moved to the Franklin United Methodist Community. Her husband Jack died in April of 2008.
They had two children, Annette Aebersold Keller of Buford, Georgia who died of cancer in October 2011, and Paul Brian (Melinda) Aebersold of Bothell, Washington, who survives.
They have four grandchildren, Sherilyn Keller Carr of Alpharetta, Georgia, Scott Keller of Glendora, California, Becky Aebersold of Seattle, Washington and Matt Aebersold of Lynnwood, Washington.
