Library to host vaccination clinics

The Johnson County Public Library will be hosting COVID-19 vaccine clinics for anyone ages 12 and older.

The library will be hosting the clinics in partnership with WindRose Health Network at three library branches: Trafalgar, White River and Franklin.

Johnson County Health Department Director Betsy Swearingen encouraged the clinics at the library branches, said Jody Veldkamp, spokesperson for the library.

“When we started looking at vaccine rates, some areas weren’t getting as many vaccinations as others,” Veldkamp said. “Betsy told us to get in touch with WindRose Health.”

The first clinic will take place at the Trafalgar library branch 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. From then on, the three library branches will hold vaccine dates staggered by three weeks to accommodate the waiting period between doses. The other clinics will take place during the late afternoon and early evening to accommodate work and school schedules. The last clinic will also take place at the Trafalgar library, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 6, according to information from the Johnson County Public Library.

Children 12 to 17 years old have to bring a parent or guardian with them to the clinic. Adults who get vaccinated must have identification either through a state ID card, a driver’s license or a piece of mail.

WindRose is offering Pfizer vaccines, as Johnson & Johnson, along with Moderna vaccines, are only for adults.

Although walk-ins are accepted, people are encouraged to call ahead so WindRose knows how many vaccine doses it will likely need, said Jayne Pennington, director of WindRose’s COVID mobile unit.

“The vaccine is so temperature-sensitive that we want to make sure we have enough to cover everybody,” Pennington said. “Walk-ins are welcome. But it’s hard to plan how many you will do and how much staff to have.”

People who get their shots at the Trafalgar or Franklin branches will also receive a McDonald’s coupon for one free medium breakfast, lunch or dinner combo meal, valid at the respective towns’ McDonald’s locations, Veldkamp said.

Edinburgh residents will also get a chance to be vaccinated. Windrose Health will be holding two clinics there July 8, one at Driftside Mobile Home Community from 8 a.m. to noon, and one at the McDonald’s at Indiana Premium Outlets from 1 to 4 p.m., Pennington said.

Windrose Health also hosts semi-weekly vaccine clinics at its 911 E. Main Cross St. location Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., she said.
