Ultimate frisbee

Center Grove Ultimate wins state title

Playing on its home fields at Maple Grove Elementary School, the Center Grove Ultimate Club rolled to its 10th state ultimate frisbee championship in 18 seasons, posting three lopsided victories on Saturday.

The top-seeded Trojans (11-0) opened their day with a 15-0 shutout of Roncalli, then moved on to the title game by defeating the Center Grove junior varsity, 15-1, in the semifinal round. Their perfect season was capped off by a 15-3 win over Brebeuf in the final.

After claiming the championship, Center Grove named Cole Hyzer as the team’s most valuable player, Jack Kempe as top offensive player and Jake Wahl the top defensive player. Will Svara was chosen as the most improved player and also won the team’s Spirit of The Game award.

Baseball

Cougars sweep doubleheader

Greenwood Christian took two from Liberty Christian, winning by scores of 21-11 and 5-4. Max Johnson and Mason Wright had three RBIs apiece in the opener for the Cougars (9-11).

Woodmen drop a pair

Greenwood was defeated twice by Scottsburg, 6-2 and 4-1. Alex Honeycutt and Chad Prentice each drove in a run for the Woodmen (2-17).

Boys golf

Trojans tie for fourth

In a closely bunched field at the Brownsburg Invitational at Trophy Club, Center Grove finished just four strokes off the lead but wound up tied for fourth with a team total of 308.

The Trojans’ White team, meanwhile, shot a 312 to win the Franklin Invitational, edging the host Grizzly Cubs on a fifth-score tiebreaker. Jack Kristel (76) and Brady Schier (77) paced Center Grove in the victory.

Warriors compete at Mooresville

Whiteland’s Will Davis shot a 74 to place second individually at the Mooresville Invitational on Saturday.

Girls tennis

Woodmen edge Warren Central

Greenwood swept the doubles points and got a clinching victory from Maggie Boyce at third singles to defeat Warren Central, 3-2, on Saturday. Sophia Davidson and Brooklyn Hanson were victorious at first doubles for the Woodmen (7-6), while Ashlee Walton and Ava Stein won in the No. 2 position.
