Softball

Franklin takes two

Erin Lee homered and drove in six runs to help Franklin to 18-6 and 8-0 wins over Martinsville on Wednesday. Izzy Harrison and Maddie Stearns also went deep for the Grizzly Cubs (11-6, 6-4 Mid-State), with Harrison and Corin Dammeier each totaling five hits on the evening.

Trojans hang on for win

Alexis Rudd struck out 15 and made Lex Warner’s first-inning two-run homer hold up as Class 4A No. 6 Center Grove edged Bloomington North, 2-1. Warner and Riley Janda had two hits each for the Trojans (16-4).

Baseball

Grizzly Cubs sweep Artesians

Franklin doubled up Martinsville on Wednesday, 12-2 and 12-0. Max Clark struck out 14 and scored three runs in the opener, then homered and drove in three in the nightcap. Jackson Henry had four RBIs on the day for the Grizzly Cubs (14-4, 8-2 Mid-State), while Logen Devenport, Nolan Netter and Drew Doty each knocked in three. Devenport pitched a one-hitter in the second game.

Cougars dominate Burris

Winning pitcher Trey Harney helped his own cause with three home runs, a double and eight RBIs at the plate, leading Greenwood Christian to a 20-1 rout of Muncie Burris. Micah Vessely, Charlie Overton, Colton Flint, Eli Ellis and Jake Potter also had multi-hit games for the Cougars (5-9, 2-3 PAAC).

Warriors edge Hawks

Peyton Emberton’s third RBI of the game plated Quinn Warweg with the winning run as Whiteland edged Decatur Central, 5-4.

Lancers fall to Spartans

Edinburgh lost to Southwestern, 14-2. Landen Burton and Jarrett Turner drove in runs for the Lancers (0-9, 0-6 Mid-Hoosier).

Royals defeat Olympians

Johnny Roeder drove in three runs and scored three to lead Roncalli to a 10-7 victory over Columbus East.

Boys golf

Trojans top Grizzly Cubs

Center Grove won a three-way match with Franklin and Columbus North at Hillview, posting a team score of 136 to beat the Bull Dogs by 15. Sam Slaughter led the Trojans with a 33, followed closely by Sam Hord (34), Drew Rowen (35) and Brandon Heffner (36). The Grizzly Cubs were led by Quin Edwards (37) and Damon Dickey (38).

At Smock, Center Grove’s White team beat Roncalli, 160-196. Jack Kristel had the low round at 37.

Braves come up short

Despite a round of 40 from Braxton Christie, Indian Creek took a close 185-188 loss at Monrovia.

Girls tennis 

Braves sweep Southwestern

Indian Creek rolled past Southwestern, 5-0, taking all five matches in straight sets. Lauren Foster, Zoe Rayback and Lauren Lewis swept the singles points for the Braves (6-5), Emilee Scott and Olivia Perry won at first doubles and Avery Burress and Addy Tunell were victorious in the No. 2 spot.

Royals top Flashes

Roncalli was a 4-1 winner over Franklin Central. The Royals got singles victories from Claire Wagner, Rebecca Zakrowski and Lili Wisler as well as a point from Cambri Lux and Katrina Gangstad at second doubles.

Miscellany

Trojan seniors sign college letters

A pair of Center Grove seniors signed letters of intent to compete in their respective sports at the Division I level. Paige Waskom will play women’s soccer at IUPUI, while Mary Wilson is moving on to play women’s basketball at the University of Denver.

Baseball sweeps Mount St. Joe

Franklin College finished its regular season out with a doubleheader sweep of Mount St. Joseph, winning by scores of 17-7 and 12-7. Quenton Wellington, Logan Demkovich and Jackson Young each homered for the Grizzlies (21-11) in the opener, while Jake Bryant had three RBIs in the nightcap.

Women’s tennis eliminated

Franklin College lost to Hanover, 5-1, in the opening round of the HCAC tournament. Sydney Utterback and Caitlin Fedor got the lone point for the Grizzlies at No. 3 doubles.
