Local agencies to distribute free supplies

Three local organizations are teaming up to provide free supplies to area businesses and organizations.

The Franklin Chamber of Commerce, Aspire Johnson County and United Way of Johnson County will work together to distribute free pandemic-related supplies to businesses and nonprofits throughout the county.

AT+T donated the supplies from its unused surplus, said Rosie Chambers, executive director of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce.

The about $25,000 worth of supplies includes gloves, hand sanitizer and disinfectant, according to a joint news release from the three organizations.

Organizations can apply for the supplies via an online link, but supplies are first come first serve. The supplies will be distributed on April 19 and 20 at the Greenwood Fire Station on Graham Road, according to the news release.

Though more and more people are getting vaccinated, the coronavirus pandemic is ongoing, and it is important for companies to protect their employees and people who enter their establishments, Chambers said.

“I think it’s so important to keep the standards we’ve been doing to make sure this is going to be minimized,” Chambers said. “We want to make sure everyone is still staying healthy and safe and observing all precautions.”

Many businesses have already spent significant amounts of money on personal protective equipment, or PPE, so the free supplies will help them greatly, said Christian Maslowski, president and CEO of Aspire Johnson County.

“Businesses are spending hundreds and thousands of dollars,” Maslowski said. “We’re opening and seeing this pandemic subside somewhat with the vaccine more available. We’re headed in the right direction, but this need will still exist for months to come.”
