Franklin’s Brunson named to Junior All-Stars

Like most other aspects of life during the ongoing pandemic, access to the Indiana Junior All-Stars was somewhat restricted this season, with just 12 players making the cut instead of the traditional 18.

It didn’t make a difference to Kuryn Brunson.

The Franklin junior guard was one of the select dozen members named to the team, which was announced Monday evening.

"Dreams to Reality," Brunson tweeted after receiving the news.

Brunson will be joined on the Junior All-Stars by Jessica Carrothers and Lilly Stoddard of Class 4A state champion Crown Point, Kate Clarke of Carmel, Alyssa Crockett of Westfield, Rayah Kincer of Franklin Central, Ayanna Patterson of Homestead, Mila Reynolds of South Bend Washington, Olivia Smith of Fort Wayne South, Kynidi Striverson of Silver Creek, Alaina Thorne of Washington and Tanyuel Welch of North Central.

After missing much of her sophomore season while recovering from a knee injury, the 5-foot-10 Brunson returned with a vengeance in 2020-21, averaging 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.5 steals while helping the Grizzly Cubs to a 22-3 record and their first semistate berth since 1999.

The juniors will play a game against the senior All-Stars on June 9 at a site to be determined. The seniors will then play a home-and-home series against Kentucky’s All-Stars on June 11 and 12, with the second of those games to be played at Southport.
