Man arrested after Franklin burglary

A Franklin man was arrested after police say he broke into a store and took cash from the safe.

Ryan Anthony Dinkens, 23, was arrested on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.

Just before 8 a.m. Thursday, Franklin police responded to the Dollar Tree, 2239 N. Morton St. in Franklin, on a burglary report. A store employee arrived to open the store and found the office safe was open, according to a Franklin Police Department report.

The safe door had been taken off completely. Documents were thrown on the floor, and all the money inside was missing, according to the report.

Detectives collected evidence at the scene, then went to Dinkens’s house about 11 a.m. Thursday, and found him standing in the driveway, Lt. Chris Tennell said.

Dinkens had a large roll of cash tied together with a rubber band sticking out of his pocket. Officers searched him, his backpack and inside his house and found the same amount of cash that was missing from the Dollar Tree, Tennell said.

Dinkens was taken to the Johnson County jail where he is held on $5,500 bond.

The Dollar Tree reopened late Thursday evening.
