Edinburgh factory evacuated after machine catches fire

A machine caught fire early Wednesday morning at Amos Hill Associates, an Edinburgh veneer manufacturer.

Edinburgh Fire and Rescue responded about 5 a.m. to the fire, where flames were showing on a dust collection machine in the shipping department at the factory, said Brandon Routier, Edinburgh Fire’s deputy chief of operations.

All Amos Hill workers evacuated safely and no injuries were reported, Routier said.

Edinburgh firefighters put out the fire in about 20 minutes, limiting the damage to one machine and some insulation on the ceiling above the machine. Crews remained on scene for about an hour to prevent rekindling, he said.

Amity Community Volunteer Fire Department, Nineveh Fire Department, German Township Fire Department, Whiteland Fire Department, Seals Ambulance and Edinburgh Police Department also responded to the scene.

“(It was) great work by all to contain this fire and limit down time for one of our local businesses,” Routier said.

Operations continued after the firefighters cleared the scene, he said.

No damage estimate was available by press time, and the cause of the fire was still under investigation, Routier said. The fire does not appear to have been set intentionally, he said.
