Local students graduate from Indiana Connections Academy

More than 20 Johnson County students were among the more than 750 who graduated this year from Indiana Connections Academy, an online school that serves as an alternative for students in kindergarten through 12th grade who weren’t successful in a traditional school environment.

Joining two Whiteland students and one from Bargersville, five Franklin students and 15 Greenwood students graduated during a virtual ceremony students from around the state attended. Students at the academy range in location from Evansville, Johnson County and Shelbyville to Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and South Bend, according to a news release from Indiana Connections Academy.

About two-thirds of graduates from the academy plan to attend two- or four-year colleges or universities. Others plan to attend vocational training programs, join the military or enter the workforce immediately after they graduate, according to the release.

“Graduation marks an incredible milestone for our students and the Class of 2020 has shown a tremendous amount of perseverance, dedication and grit during these trying times,” Executive Director Chandre Sanchez Reyes said in the news release. “While the world was adjusting to sudden changes, our graduates were able to complete their senior year academically uninterrupted.”
