Edinburgh offers small business loans

The Edinburgh Small Business Recovery Program is open for applications until Wednesday.

This is a business assistance program offered by the Town of Edinburgh, with administrative help from the Johnson County Community Foundation, to offset the economic impact felt by small businesses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release from the Town of Edinburgh. The program is funded by a $240,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

The program provides grant funding of up to $5,000 for businesses with one to five employees, up to $10,000 for six to 15 employees and up to $15,000 for businesses with 17 or more employees to assist small businesses in retaining staff, according to the news release.

Grant funds must be used for business-related expenses, such as payroll, working capital and operating costs to retain low-moderate income jobs, the news release said.

Businesses may apply if they meet the following criteria:

  • It is located in the corporate limits of Edinburgh;
  • It has been in operation for six months or longer;
  • It is not part of a chain;
  • It can provide proof of impact by emergency and executive orders;
  • It has no current tax liens, code enforcement violations or legal judgments;
  • It is in good standing with the Indiana Secretary of State.

Funds will be awarded based on demonstrated need and not all applications will be approved, or approved at the level requested. Priority will be given to businesses not eligible for federal or state assistance programs, according to the news release.

Applications are available online at edinburgh.in.us/. Applications are due by 4 p.m. Wednesday and may be submitted via email or dropped off in a sealed envelope at the entrance to the John R. Drybread Community Center downtown.Â
