Christie, DeHaven earn junior golf wins

<p>Braxton Christie of Indian Creek hadn’t made much noise during the first two rounds of the Johnson County Junior Tournament Series. He changed that in a big way on Saturday.</p><p>Christie fired a 1-under-par 71 at The Legends, good for a one-stroke victory in the high school boys division. Center Grove’s Peyton Short was second with a 72, followed by Austin Shelley (73), Will Davis (74) and Quin Edwards (75).</p><p>Short extended his already sizable edge in the series point standings. He now has 67 points, well in front of second-place Davis (51), Damon Dickey (35) and Christie (34).</p><p>The high school girls also had a different winner for the third straight week, with Lanie DeHaven of Center Grove taking top honors with a 79. She finished four shots clear of Franklin’s Ava Ray (83), who had won a week earlier. Liv Parramore (84), Hope Davis (86) and Ellie Beavins (87) rounded out the top five.</p><p>DeHaven also moved up to second in the series standings with 56 points, while Ray took sole possession of first with 65. Parramore and Meg Fosnot (50) are tied for third.</p><p>Franklin’s Ava Bunker continued to reign supreme in the middle school girls division, shooting a 38 to claim victory for the third consecutive week. Lexi Ray was second at 42 and Abby Rich was third with a 47. Bunker (75) and Ray (56) remain 1-2 in the series standings as well.</p><p>On the middle school boys side, Jack Besner’s 40 was good enough to eke out a win over James Beetz (42) and Reid Davidson (43). The first-place finish also put Besner atop the point standings with 71 points, eight ahead of Davidson.</p><p>Kalen Rowland won comfortably in the middle school par-3 division, carding a 36 to finish 10 shots ahead of the pack. Zach Zoeller won the 10-and-under division with a 33, edging Noah Weiskittel by one stroke.</p><p>The fourth leg of the five-week series will take place this Saturday.</p>
