Man arrested on theft, burglary charges for stealing dog

An Indianapolis man was arrested this weekend after he stole a puppy from a Greenwood home.

Jerry Wayne Maiden, 40, was arrested on charges of theft; burglary / breaking and entering, a Level 6 felony; and violating the state’s stay-at-home order.

A woman reported Sunday morning that Maiden entered her home uninvited, took her eight-month-old puppy and left, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The woman told the deputy at the house that Maiden believed she owed him money, the report said.

Police located Maiden’s vehicle at Tanglewood Drive and County Line Road in Greenwood and pulled him over. The dog was safely returned to its owner. Maiden, 3511 Redwood Drive, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he is held on $3,200 bond.
