Wilhoit helps Purdue softball win four games

Purdue softball player Kasey Wilhoit had a home run and a single while scoring two runs in an 8-4 downing of host UNC-Greensboro in invitational play. The sophomore, a graduate of Indian Creek, had a two-run double in a 9-5 win over Fairfield and scored two runs and stole a base in a 9-1 victory over the Stags.

INDIAN CREEK

Sophomore guard Jared DeHart scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench to lead the Bethel men’s basketball team to an 85-77 win at Marian in the quarterfinal round of the Crossroads League tournament.

Junior Hunter Fields finished fourth in the weight throw at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference indoor track and field meet in Terre Haute with a personal-best toss of 14.57 meters. She took ninth in the shot put with a best of 10.06 meters.

CENTER GROVE

University of Indianapolis catcher Will Smithey delivered a three-run base hit to help the Greyhounds down Notre Dame (Ohio), 22-9.

Indiana Wesleyan pitcher Conner Cantrell allowed six hits over eight innings and struck out five in the team’s 9-4 victory over Georgetown (Kentucky).

Hanna Burris had a single and stolen base in UIndy’s 3-2 loss to Northwood at Grand Park in Westfield. In the second game, freshman second baseman Piper Belden scored two runs as the Greyhounds routed West Liberty in five innings, 13-2.

Vermont guard Emma Utterback had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists in her team’s 54-47 loss at UMBC.

Bentley freshman Ella Thompson scored 14 points off the bench to go along with three assists in a 75-52 victory over Franklin Pierce. She scored 11 points with four assists and two steals in a 68-61 loss at Saint Anselm. Thompson recently earned Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Indiana freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis finished with 13 points, 10 boards and a block in the team’s 68-60 win against visiting Penn State.

Senior guard Michael Benkert had seven points, four rebounds and two assists in Belmont’s 83-70 defeat of Eastern Kentucky.

Delta State senior guard Anderson McCoy had 17 points and five rebounds in an 84-83 loss at Auburn.

Cassidy Hardin finished with three points and four rebounds for Purdue in its 88-45 loss at Maryland.

Sophomore Amy Davis chipped in three points for Franklin College in its 87-50 victory against Defiance in women’s basketball.

Indiana junior Ethan Shepherd led the Hoosiers with a 1-under-par score of 71 in the first round of the Dorado (Puerto Rico) Beach Collegiate. The final two rounds were cancelled due to rain.

Illinois men’s golf finished fourth of 21 teams at the Burns Intercollegiate tournament in Lihue, Hawaii. Sophomore Noah Gillard tied for 57th individually with a score of 76-74-71—221.

GREENWOOD

Franklin College freshman Nick Patton established a new personal-record time of 8.80 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to finish third at the HCAC indoor track and field meet in Terre Haute.

Redshirt freshman Nick Young helped the Indiana State men’s track squad capture the Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special by placing fourth in the weight throw with a best of 55 feet, 5 inches. Young was also fifth in the shot put (51-7).

UIndy pitcher Reid Werner struck out eight batters in five innings to pick up the win in relief as the Greyhounds defeated Notre Dame (Ohio), 22-9.

Taylor third baseman T.J. Bass belted a three-run homer in the first game of his team’s doubleheader sweep at Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Kentucky. The sophomore had a single and scored a run in the second game.

Senior guard Holly Hoopingarner scored nine points, had four rebounds and three assists in IUPUI’s 61-58 loss to Green Bay.

FRANKLIN

Franklin College left fielder Jacob Heuchan scored a run in the Grizzlies’ 13-2 win over North Vermont-Lyndon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. He got the pitching start against Capital, taking the loss as the Grizzlies lost, 16-5.

Jacob Zachary picked up two of his team’s points, winning both his singles and doubles match, to lead Franklin College men’s tennis to a 7-2 defeat of Alma.

Freshman guard Reece Thomson scored eight points for Mount St. Joseph in an 82-78 loss at Anderson.

Bayleigh Torrance finished with four points and four rebounds as Franklin College concluded its regular season in women’s basketball with an 87-50 win over Defiance.

Vincennes sophomore Nick Riggles ran a time of 9.1 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to finish ninth at the Eastern Illinois Invitational. He also placed 14th in the long jump with a top effort of 19 feet, 2 inches. Teammate Matt Frazier was 13th in the pole vault after clearing 13 feet, 1 1/2 inch.
